To understand the criteria on which the following recommandations are made please read the introduction article.

Due the popularity of Windows opperating systems we have a lot of freeware BitTorrent clients struggling to be the best on this platform.

utorrent logo

µTorrent is one of the best clients out there. With only 281 KB download size, very good CPU and RAM consumption, intuitive GUI, high performance and lots of features µTorrent is always a very good choice. Also the program has a 52 language pack and numerous skins available.

vuze logo

Another very appreciated and popular BitTorrent client is Vuze (former Azureus). What’s nice about Vuze is that you can install many plugins according to your needs. Also, like µTorrent you have a 52 language pack. In addition to bittorrenting, Vuze allows users to view, publish and share original DVD and HD quality video content. You can share torrents with your friends and chat with them using Vuze Network. The downside is that Vuze is written in Java and requires a JRE. This means higher CPU and RAM consumption and slower GUI response. So if you don’t care about the use of system resources and want to chat with your mates and share torrents Vuze might be your ideal client. But if you have a slow PC don’t go with Vuze.

Deluge Logo

Deluge is a new BitTorrent client that is gaining popularity. It’s based on libtorrent which “was created with the intention of being lightweight and unobtrusive. It features multiple user-interfaces including: GTK+, web and console. It has been designed using the client server model with a daemon process that handles all the bittorrent activity. The Deluge daemon is able to run on headless machines with the user-interfaces being able to connect remotely from any platform. Deluge features a rich plugin collection; in fact, most of Deluge’s functionality is available in the form of plugins “. It has all the nine features mentioned in the previous article except for Super seeding. It’s worth a try if you have issues with µTorrent.

And finnaly, the last recommanded client for downloading torrents on the Windows platform is BitComet. This is not just a BitTorrent client, it’s also a HTTP and FTP client. In fact the developers call it a “download management software”. It is fast, easy to use and has medium use of system resources. Although it had some troubles in the past and was banned from several trackers for ignoring the “private flag”, those problems are solved and BitComet is regaining credibility. You may choose again your language from 52 others and you have can install some plugins ( e.g. for eMule ). However it lacks remote control administration and Super seeding.

Conclusion:

So these are the best BitTorrent clients I advice you to use on Windows. There are others of course but my opinion is: stick to one of the popular clients because they are tested, accepted on all trackers and periodically updated and improved.
