To understand the criteria on which the following recommandations are made please read the introduction article.

On Mac the BitTorrent clients world is not that developed as on Windows but we still have some good candidates.

transmission logo
Transmission appears to be the best client for torrents on Mac. It has low resource usage lots of features and good support. It’s true it lacks Super seeding, RSS and a built-in tracker but it will do the job without problems. Unlike some cross-platform programs, Transmission seamlessly integrates with your operating system. The Mac OS X interface is written in Objective-C and uses Growl notifications and dock badging to keep you informed. Also it has some usefull add-ons.

As on Windows platform, µTorrent is an important option on Macintosh OS X. It has most of the features of the original client but currently is in beta. Anyway keep an eye on it, because the developers are working hard to release a final version. It is written in native Cocoa and is as lightweight and fast as the Windows brother.

vuze logo

Vuze has a Mac version as well. It’s exactly the same Java based app that lets you chat with your friends and share videos, but which is hungry for CPU and RAM. The great plugins gallery may convince you it’s worth it. If you have a good computer give it a try.

Conclusion:

I advice you to choose a client from those listed above. They are popular, tested and accepted on all trackers.
