Choose a BitTorrent client

A BitTorrent client is a computer software that manages downloads and uploads using the BitTorrent protocol. The first client, BitTorrent, was created by Bram Cohen, in October 2002. Many subsequent clients have been at least partially based on it. Not all clients were originally built for BitTorrent, having added support for the protocol later on.

So, what is the best BitTorrent client?

That is a question that I’ve encountered very often. And that’s no surprive because we all want a client that gets the job done fast, can be customized and that is not a big CPU or RAM eater. But what makes a client stand up in front of the others? Besides performance the following attributes can make your life easier and make a difference between clients:

DHT - supports a trackerless system where every peer acts as a tracker
Build-in tracker – usefull to create your own torrents
Protocol encryption - protect against throttling (slow down) peer-to-peer traffic
Remote control - a web GUI that allows you to access your client from another computer
RSS support – recive the latest torrents (You can subscribe to our feed :D )
UPnP Port Mapping – if your router supports UPnP you won’t need to forward any ports
Selective Downloading – you can select which files within a torrent you want to download
Priotarization - you can assign download priorities to the torrents
Super Seeding – tries to send out pieces of the file that have not been sent before

In the following we will try to make a list of the most popular BitTorrent clients for each platform: Windows, Macintosh and Linux that meet most of the features listed above.
